Pirch Set Up

PIRCH SETUP

The intent of this Documents is to help you getting Pirch set-up,

When you just receive PIRCH98 and it is an EXE type file. It seems like you will have to do seemingly a lot. But its not so bad .. really.

If you are installing Pirch over an existing copy be certain to back up all the files you want to save that it may overwrite.

These files may include Aliases.paf, Events.ini, Channels.ini, Popups.irc, chanpop.irc, servpop.irc and Msgpop.irc You backup by moving those files to a temporary and them moving them back into the main Pirch Directory you set-up as out lined below. They will then overwrite (replace) the new files by the same name.

Getting Set-Up

Pirch itself will Create a Main Directory and will call it c:\pirch98\ or c:\pirch for the 16 bit
1.) Create 4 Sub-directories   c:\pirch98\sounds\ the sound Directory
    c:\pirch98\bios\   the bio Directory
    c:\pirch98\download\ the general download Directory
    c:\pirch98\logs\ the Directory for your log-files
*Those of you using the 16 bit should have them named c:\pirch\sounds, etc.
2.) unzip pirch into the Main-Directory
3.) put all sounds you already have and you want to use on-line into c:\pirch32\sounds\
4.) Then its time to start up PIRCH
5.) Press Login
a)   Enter your NickName where it says so.... that can be Merlin or Superman .. even         though I think those are taken ;-)
b) enter whatever you want in 'Personal Information' 'Name'    if you want to .. I myself                have a slogan in there 'e-mail'   self-explanatory
c) 'Initial User Modes'   I recommend to un-check them all , its nothing you couldn't         change later
d) check 'Auto-connect'
e)   press 'Save Profile' .. save it in the Main-Directory
f)   press 'Connect'

7.) Once your connected join a channel by typing /join #channelname i.e. for joining the   PIRCH-Channel type /join #pirch

8.) Now its Time to set up our preferences;

PREFS
I will only handle 3 tabs , that's 'Media' 'Logs' and 'DCC' , because all the others are solely based on ones liking or not and their function can be easily derived from the labels or from the regular FAQ

Media
Check both boxes   'Enable Sound' and 'Ignore if already playing sound'
'Default Sound Path'   type in   c:\pirch98\sounds\
        or press the little arrow on the right and select the proper       directory that way.
Logs
'Log Directory' c:\pirch32\logs\
Check box You should check one box and that's the 'Private Messages' box
The others .. according your liking.
DCC
'DCC Options' I recommend everything checked but 'Auto-Accept'
'Packet Size' put 1024 in there ... for starters , that's pretty safe
'Time-outs' 90/90 that's sufficient
'Default DCC Paths' c:\pirch98\downloads\
c:\pirch98\downloads\
c:\pirch98\bios\

9.) DCC-Extensions In the menu-bar click on 'Options' and select 'Download        Extensions Map' click on 'Add' and enter following;
'Extensions': mid;wav;rmi;avi;mod;ra
'Directory': c:\pirch98\sounds
'Download Action': check the 'Save to Disk' radio button

That's it ... adjust the rest of it according your special taste and then click 'OK'

Scripting PIRCH

What we recommend you do here is get Duckies Script and load it into Pirch98
      Once you have reviewed this script you can add to it or change it totally to your preference
