You’ll find more than a bird’s eye view when you’re shopping for appliances at PIRCH, with its show-stopping, hands-on vignettes, a swanky barista station with complimentary brews.
Taking its name from a bit of word play - referring to a “perch” and feathering your nest - PIRCH is located at the South Coast Collection just off the 405 in Costa Mesa, on the south edge of the trendy indoor-outdoor mix of design, home decor and culinary-fashion stores.
Its sensory environment is an antidote to picking from the cluttered shelves of a packed-to-the-rafters home-improvement store of the blandness of catalog and online shopping. Spacious (20,000 square feet) and gracious, the showroom - which opened three years go - invites customers to get up close and personal with the products. Kick off your shoes and step into one of the deep, comfy tubs.
Turn on the various ceiling- and wall-mounted show heads in the aptly names Sanctuary. (No need to feel guilting about aiding and abetting the drought; the water is recycled.) If you really want to check the spray - after all, you might be contemplating a fixture that runs $1,000 or higher - talk with one of the “lifestyle advisors” to arrange an after-hours shower.
It’s all part of the PIRCH approach. “We want the store to be interactive. The whole foundation we’re built on is feel, smell touch, experience, try,” says regional Vice President of Sales Clint Fenn. “A lot of people don’t think of plumbing and appliances as sexy and fun. We’re turning that on its head.”
It all looks upscale, but in fact, there’s something for every budget. “People come in and automatically assume that we’re a Lamborghini dealership,” says Fenn, “But we’re extremely price-competitive, with everything from the very high-end to the entry level.”
