The CEO of San Diego-based luxury home appliance chain PIRCH has been named one of the top disruptors in retail this year by the National Retail Federation.
Jeffery Sears made the trade group’s list of 25 people shaping retail’s future this week.
The list is divided into five categories:
- The Disruptors
- The Dreamers
- The Givers
- The Influencers
- The Power Players
The list was published in advance of the federation’s annual convention in New York City, Retail’s Big Show, which opens Sunday.
Sears was categorized as a disruptor. Disruptors, according to the National Retail Federation, are the innovators leading the way with groundbreaking products, company culture or strategy. The group calls them “True originals who rock the boat with ideas so crazy, they just might work.”

Since launching PIRCH four years ago, Sears has helped break the tedium of shopping for everything from toilets to cooking ranges, and made bricks-and-mortar more relevant than ever – even in the era of online shopping.
Guests are encouraged to cook, shower and otherwise make themselves at home in PIRCH’s showrooms, of which there are now seven across the country.
“PIRCH showrooms are interactive experiences where customers are able to try products before they buy,” the National Retail Federation wrote.
“We are grateful to have received such a prestigious award, and feel humbled by our inclusion among retail’s most distinguished and accomplished leaders,” PIRCH wrote in a statement about the list. “This honor recognizes that PIRCH is making great progress towards our goal of creating a retail experience that is activated, fun, inspiring and joyful.”
Formerly Fixtures Living, PIRCH changed its look and name in 2013 before expanding nationwide, and it has been named to Forbes’ list of America’s Most Promising Companies.
