Brenda Houston

“Only after cutting it do you know if there is beauty inside; a door magically opening to a whole new world.” - Brenda Houston

American designer Brenda Houston has long been captivated by the allure of gemstones, crystals and minerals, and in her opulent tables, lighting, wallcoverings and decorative accessories, she gives them pride of place. Working with a select network of sources throughout the world, she locates exceptional specimens, showcasing them in her handcrafted custom furnishings. She recognizes that “nature’s artworks” have seduced since ancient times, and will continue to do so, sidestepping passing fads to be coveted for generations.

NEST FRAGRANCES

“As guests enter my home and they are greeted with a beautiful home fragrance, their faces light up, and their mood changes. An immediate emotional reaction takes place and they are impacted in a very positive way.” - Laura Slatkin

That same year, Laura founded her own company, NEST Fragrances, initially focusing on the production of private-label and licensed home fragrance collections for the world’s most important luxury brands including Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Jonathan Adler and NARS. In 2008, after three years of meticulous development, she launched a more personal collection of luxe home scents by the same name, the NEST Fragrances Collection. For this collection, Laura draws upon her own experiences, emphasizing the powerful emotional connection between scent and a sense of place.

STINSON STUDIOS

“When sculpting wood, we react to the individual piece to reveal the form already inherent in the wood. We don’t create beauty, we reveal and accentuate what has already been inspired by nature.” - Jesse Stinson

In the early 80s, in the backwoods of Eastern Ontario, Don Stinson made a living turning and making furniture, expressing himself creatively by hand crafting wooden bowls and burls in a hundred year old horse stable. Since then, the bowls and burls have taken centre stage, and the business has grown in size and gained international recognition. What was once a one-man show has evolved into a two-generation family business that shines internationally while still keeping true to the heart and roots of the business.

JOE CARIATI

I love the art of production…I love the focus on efficiency, economy of movement, and repetition. There’s a quote in Style Wars from a tagger who gets out there a lot: ”It’s not about perfect. It’s about more.” That’s what it is about. It’s about the refinement–constant refinement–through doing and making. - Joe Cariati

Joe Cariati’s work is entirely “free blown”, a Venetian glassblowing process that utilizes the human hand, not blow molds, to form vessels from start to finish. No part of our process is automated and it cannot be replicated by any machine or mold. A small team of experienced glassmakers assist Joe during the process to ensure the utmost quality and proportion of each piece. From color preparation, to gathering to proper amount of material, each work is literally made one by one, using ancient techniques that have been perfected over the course of Joe’s twenty-year career.
